DESCRIPTION
Have you ever wondered why offspring in one family can be so different? Or why some offspring are more likely to survive than others?
If so, the Beebops Genetics and Evolution Kit is perfect for you or your students! In this kit, you'll "breed" two fictional creatures (Beebops), using paper chromosomes to simulate meiosis, and combine the egg and sperm cells to produce a zygote (fertilized egg). You'll then decode the genes of the fertilized egg to produce your very own baby Beebop, using crafting supplies to represent the characteristics of the creature. With the provided family album, you'll explore how characteristics are inherited across families.
In Part 2, you'll explore how environments can select for or against the baby Beebops. You will work to understand which babies are most likely to survive and reproduce, and will then predict what will happen to Beebop traits in an entire population. It's an excellent Biology kit for studying and understanding nature's "survival of the fittest" concept.
Each kit comes with a detailed teacher's guide and a complete student worksheet. Additionally, aside from a few common household items, all supplies needed to conduct the hands-on activities are included. No specialized lab equipment is required - making it a perfect learning activity for all types of schools and homes.
Time to complete: 2 - 4 Class Periods (about 40 minutes each) with homework
