The acidic nature of Eosin Y stains basic parts of the cell, like the cytoplasm, pink-orange, making it a good counter-stain with methylene blue. Eosin Y stain is ideal for lab or classroom use, and can be substituted for Congo Red stain or Neutral Red stain.
