Acoustic Resonance Apparatus

With this kit, you can provide a visual reinforcement for students so they can better understand wave resonance. Students can investigate the resonant behaivior of an enclosed air column when stimulated by a tuning fork. Students can even calculate the speed of sound with the using of a tuning fork and water!

The resonance tube is securely held to the ring stand with a clamp. The tube will remain open at the top and closed with a rubber stopper and tubing at the bottom. Students will fill the resonance tube partially with water, leaving air space at the top.

Students will mark the tube with a crayon or tape (you provide) to measure and calculate the speed of sound. Points of resonance where the sound in the resonance tube is louder can be heard and measured by your student.

In addition, you will need to provide:

• Crayon or tape
• Meterstick or tape measure
• Water
