Staphylococcus epidermidis Bacteria - Freeze Dried Culture

Staphylococcus epidermidis is a Gram positive, spherical-shaped, non-pathogenic bacterium that is part of the common human skin and mucous membrane flora.

Each culture arrives in a freeze-dried pellet and comes with rehydrating broth, an agar slant, sterile swab and instructions for use. After rehydration the culture can be transferred with an inoculating needle.

Refrigeration: While the culture can sit out for 3-4 weeks, it is best to get the culture into the refrigerator as soon as it is received. Do not store in freezer.

Growth Time: S. epidermidis can grow double in as little as one hour, but has a more common incubation period of 4-10 days.

Appearance: Individual S. epidermidis are 0.5-0.15 micrometers in diameter. Colonies of S. epidermidis look round, raised, shiny, gray, and have complete edges. They are generally 2-3mm in diameter.

Growth Conditions: S. epidermidis is capable of being anaerobic and has a temperature range for growth from 15° to 45°C (59° to 113°F). However, the species grows best at 30° to 37°C (86° to 98.6°F) in aerobic conditions.
