DESCRIPTION
An amazing guided tour of the night sky! The first Newtonian reflector telescope that uses your smartphone to analyze and calculate the telescope position in real-time. Ideal for beginners and enthusiasts alike, this easy-to-use, app-guided experience will be sure to amaze! Just insert your phone into the StarSense dock and open the StarSense Explorer app.
With a large 130mm (5”) objective lens, this telescope has enough light gathering ability to bring out impressive detail in celestial objects. You can expect sharp, bright views of Jupiter’s four Galilean moons, its cloud bands and Great Red Spot, the rings of Saturn, the trapezium in the Orion Nebula, and beautiful Pleaides Open Star Cluster. Highly reflective coatings on both the primary and secondary mirror enhance the views even more.
StarSense Explorer DX 130AZ ultra-stable altazimuth mount provides an exceptionally sturdy foundation and slip clutches and geared slow motion controls on both axes to help you move the telescope smoothly to your target. Plus, for objects appearing to move across the sky, you can easily follow them with just a few turns of a knob. At a total weight of 18 pounds, the telescope is not only sturdy but portable.
It also comes with an adjustable tripod that enables you to customize the height or place it on uneven surfaces. Plus, you'll receive a number of accessories with the telescope including:
- Two eyepieces (25mm and 10mm) - The two eyepieces offer different magnifications to view your intended object
- StarPointer(TM) red dot finderscope - The finderscope will help you quickly center an object in your eyepiece for easier observing.
Here's how it works:
- After aligning your phone to the telescope’s optics (a quick, 2-minute procedure), StarSense Explorer generates a list of celestial objects currently visible.
- Make your selection and arrows appear onscreen, guiding you as you to move the telescope.
- When the object is ready to view, the bullseye turns green. The app uses patent-pending technology to determine exactly where the telescope is pointed in the dark, night sky.
A special algorithm called LISA (Lost in Space Algorithm), like the one used in satellites in orbit, helps to identify the patterns in the sky to internal databases. This is the only available technology to both guide, locate and alert you to when your target is visible in the eyepiece. Even if you live in a light polluted city location, StarSense Explorer is advanced enough to be able to pick out Jupiter, Saturn, Venus, the Orion Nebula, double stars, and a few more of the most famous celestial objects.
